They actually always riveted them. It's only recently they started using glues; mainly to save (a shed-load of) weight.

Have acquired a pipe bender which is ideal, but I am having to make all the dies and formers as well which is time consuming. Was toying with the idea of some sort of basic sheet metal body work
next on the agenda is a chassis table, need to clear a bit of space, but hopefully have that done and the chassis
started by christmas.

Great project!

Aluminium is a tricky beast to get right, although you can buy 6061 in either T4 or T6 off the shelf you can also get your own spec made to order.
You need the elasticity to bend but retaining the rigidity at the same time, which is a fine line..

Speak to http://www.aluminiumshapes.co.uk as they extrude to your required spec and also stock lots of ready treated tubes etc.
